YG: Journey - Level 2

Gain NCEA Level 2 and go on a journey of adventure and exploration in a supportive learning environment. Ideal if you are interested in a career in the outdoors, want to move into the tourism industry or need to develop your teamwork and leadership skills.

  • > Course Outline

    During the Journey you will learn life skills while experiencing a range of outdoor recreation pursuits including tramping, camping, first aid, rock climbing, abseiling, ropes courses and rafting.


    Learn about the tourism industry through visiting local tourism attractions and activities. Give back to the community through volunteer days at local conservation projects. 


    A typical week includes 1 - 2 days in the outdoors along with several multi-day camps.


    Future pathways include study or work in the outdoor recreation or tourism industries. Communication, interpersonal and self-management skills and your NCEA Level 2 qualification also open up a wide range of general study options or careers.

  • > Course Fees and Eligibility: FREE for 16-19 year olds *

    To participate in this course and qualify for free training under the Youth Guarantee initiative,
    students must:

    - be 16-19 years of age at the start of the Youth Guarantee programme;
    - be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency;
    - be prepared to study full-time for 1 year in a level 1-3 programme;
    - not be enrolled in school and a Youth Guarantee programme simultaneously;
