Story of Student's Success | 20.05.2008
Dean Stewart joined the Tourism programme at the Dunedin Community Colllege in 2007, leaving the College at the end of the year he moved to work in Queenstown. Currently Dean is the General Manager for the 'Barmuda Group' comprising of three top bars in the area, Barmuda, Minibar and Barup. Dean popped in to visit us in April when he was in Dunedin representing Queenstown Bar Owners/Managers in the High Court to appeal the new Liquor Licensing Law.

The Bermuda Group have had great success in the cocktail making comptetitions recently held in Queenstown. We congratulate Dean on his achievements and hope his career continues to go from strength to strength.
Nelson Bays U21 Women's Touch Team Win NZ Nationals | 15.03.2008
Congratulations to Nelson Bays U21 Women's Touch Team for winning the 2008 Nationals. Weeks of training and fund raising paid off with a 6-4 win in the finals of the NZ Open and Youth Nationals held in March. After the gold medal presentation, selections were named for the squads to play in next years NZ World Cup in Wellington. Impressed with the Bay's performance, 4 players were selected to be part of the U19 Womens and U21 Mixed squads.
Community Colleges NZ were proud to sponsor the team with Daina Crosbie, a staff member at Marlborough Community College playing as Vice Captain.

South Canterbury's Big Day Out | 26.02.2008
South Canterbury Community College put together their Big Day Out at Raincliffe Scout Camp in February. With a mix of abseilling, confidence courses, food and of course fun there was a chance for everyone to try something new and challenge themselves.

College Manager, Nancy Lawrence was impressed with impressed with how the whole college got involved. "It was a brilliant day with excellent participation, teamwork and support".
The event proved to be a worthwhile experience all round with lots of individual goals being met.
Southland Community College Gala Day Fundraiser | 14.12.2007
December 2007 saw Southland Community College hold their Gala Day, fundraising for the Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The event was held in Wachner Place in the heart of Invercargill's CBD.

Students and tutors really got into the spirit of things with each course contributing their skills and talents. This included a sausage sizzle from Cookery, a cake stall from Cafe Culture and hair ups and manicures from Hairdressing.

Work 'N It Out, Community College's transition to work service for school leavers joined in with their own second-hand stall.

Enthusiasm and effort paid off with just under $3,000 raised for Southland Cancer Society from the Gala and from previous fundraising events run by Southland Community College. As Christine say's, "events like this demonstrate why we have Community as our middle name".

Coast to Coast 2008 | 04.02.2008
Congratulations to Sue Brookes, our stirling Coast to Coaster, who having completed the two-day team event in 2006, last month went back for more this time competing as an individual in the world's premier multi-sport event.

Sue's passion and enthusiasm for the Coast to Coast and other multi-sporting events is obvious and summed up well in her comment made after successfully finishing the two-day, cross-country race remarking, 'That was fun!'
Having dedicated a good chunk of her spare time to training, Sue can now have a few weeks off before getting back on her bike in April for the somewhat lengthy 101km Grape Ride.

Contributions to Community and Education Recognised. | 07.10.2007
Congratulations to Tony Hall, the Director of Community Colleges NZ for the recognition received in this years Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Tony was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for his contributions to the community and education and particularly the “second chance” educational opportunities offered by the community colleges.
Set up 25 years ago by Tony, the Community Colleges Network has seen tens of thousands of students’ progress through the system. He believes his MNZM really recognises the outstanding individual achievements of those students.
