Support of the Older Person

Community Care and Support
The Community Care and Support programme offers a broad base of skills
to enable you to care for the elderly or people with disabilities
effectively and compassionately.
It is ideal for people wishing to learn the introductory skills needed to enter into this profession.
- National Certificate in Support of the Older Person - Level 3
This National Certificate is well recognized within the industry and
provide a sound basis for people interested in a career in community care and support.
Our Community Care and Support Programmes are mostly run as full time courses.
However, some campuses do have a part time training option.
All campuses are flexible, and endeavour to adapt to your needs regarding children and other commitments.
The following areas may be covered in this programme:
- Basic anatomy and physiology, first aid and life support
- Client care, which involves providing a safe environment, food
hygiene, cleanliness, and learning how to lift and position people
safely
- Support for the client by being aware of their culture, physical
and emotional needs, daily living activities, understanding their
disappointment, loss and grief, and knowing their rights and
responsibilities
- Community awareness, including knowledge of support services and resources
- Health and safety
- Personal development to further enhance your skills for the
workplace. You’ll be able to develop essential attributes such as
personal presentation, time management, team work, dealing with stress
and communicating in a working environment
- And finally, you’ll complete some active preparation to gain
employment. We’ll help you as much as we can by placing you out
in the industry for practical work experience, helping with your CV,
planning for your career, and assisting with job search, job
applications and interviews.
