Tourism & Travel


Our Tourism programmes offer a broad range of skills essential for employment in any travel or tourism establishment.

It is ideal for people wishing to gain new skills and basic training in current work practices.

Our Tourism and Travel Incorporates 2 National Certificates:
  • National Certificate in Tourism and Travel (Introductory Skills) Level 2
  • National Certificate in Tourism and Travel (Core Skills) Level 3

(Level 2 is only available at North Canterbury and level 3 at Dunedin at the present time).

Our Tourism and Travel Programmes are mostly run as full time courses.
However, some campuses do have a part time training option.
All campuses are flexible, and endeavour to adapt to your needs regarding children and other commitments.

The following areas may be covered in this programme:
  • The NZ tourism industry
  • Travel destinations, including New Zealand, Australia and the South West Pacific
  • History, effects and trends of tourism
  • Administration, involving word processing, writing business letters and memos, and reading texts
  • Customer service skills, including attending to customer enquiries, communicating with people from other cultures and international visitors
  • Personal development to further enhance your skills for the workplace. You’ll be able to develop essential attributes such as personal presentation, cultural and community awareness, time keeping, team work, dealing with stress and communicating in a working environment
  • And finally, you’ll complete some active preparation to gain employment. We’ll help you as much as we can by placing you out in the industry for practical work experience, helping with your CV, planning for your career, and assisting with job search, job applications and interviews.
