Youth Guarantee Programmes
Youth Guarantee is a new government initiative starting in 2010 and aims to provide 16 and 17 year olds with an opportunity to participate in a range of vocational courses free of charge.
Student Eligibility
Youth Guarantee programmes are for students aged 16 and 17, who have achieved NCEA[1] Level 1 or less and for whom a vocational pathway would be a preferred choice.
To qualify for free training under the Youth Guarantee initiative, students must:
- be 16 or 17 at the start of the programme, and not turn 18 years of age within three months of the start date;
- have completed Year 11 and be ready to move beyond school;
- be new to tertiary education;
- be enrolled full-time;
- enrol in a minimum of a full year’s worth of study.
Note that students must not be enrolled in school and a Youth Guarantee programme at the same time.
Students will not be eligible for Student Loans administered by Studylink.
